Moshi is a charming town nestled on the southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania, not far from the Kenya border. If you're planning to visit this stunning destination, here's how to get there.
Best Option: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
The most convenient way to reach Moshi/Kilimanjaro is by flying into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Airlines like KLM/Kenya Airways, Ethiopian, and Condor serve this airport. Once you arrive, we can arrange a private transfer from JRO Airport to Moshi for $50 one way.
While tickets to Kilimanjaro Airport may be slightly pricier than flying to Nairobi or Dar es Salaam, it's a cost-effective choice considering you save time on bus travel, domestic flight expenses, Kenyan visa costs (if flying to Nairobi), and potentially two hotel nights in Nairobi or Dar es Salaam.
Arrive Early for Your Trek or Safari
It's recommended to arrive at least one day before your Kilimanjaro trek or safari departure. This gives you time to settle in and adjust to the new surroundings.
Other Airports and Travel Options:
Dar es Salaam (DAR): Buses between Dar es Salaam and Moshi cost around $50 per person one-way and take about 8 hours. Morning departures are available. We can help you with hotel bookings and transportation to/from Dar es Salaam.

“The Riverside” bus shuttle links Nairobi and Moshi. The shuttle costs $40 per person each way and takes about six hours. It departs Nairobi at 8 am daily. Prepare to arrive 30 minutes early to load luggage. The shuttle stops at the Tanzanian border for immigration and customs checks. A visa is required to enter Tanzania. The route is a bit bumpy due to ongoing construction, but it offers a genuine African experience. The shuttle also stops in Arusha for a shuttle switch and lunch. You can bring your own snacks and drinks for the journey.
You can also take a private car from Nairobi to Moshi. This car accommodates 7-8 people or a mini-bus for 20-25 people. You decide the pickup time and place, and we arrange the transportation for you. The cost for a 7-8 person car is around $500 one way.
